December EcoSwim recap

Dear Andy, Josue, Gerardo, Luciano, Susan, Claire, Brooke, Amelia, Laura, Cassy, Diane, Janie, Ed, Milka,

My hat goes off to you for your willingness to try something new and to have fun with it. THANK YOU Andy and Josue for leading our first boating safety clinic at Forest Grove Aquatic Center, with safety in mind and an eye on pacing, balance, and fun. Welcome new WaterStrong volunteersJanie and Ed, new WaterStrong board member Josue, and new Bienestar partner Gerardo!

I mentioned we are developing the boating safety curriculum here with an eye toward operationalizing it for future programming. Along those lines, you provided excellent insights to tailor the next event for children and their parents, bring in kayaks and SUPs, and rotate groups with group #1working on swim skills in the shallow end, while group #2 works on boating safety in the deep end. Let’s do it.

Coming up next:

* EcoSwim with Bienestar at Forest Grove Aquatic Center: Sunday 1/5 (boating safety) and 2/23 from 3-6p. Yes, I can be there!

* Red Cross Adult & Pediatric Basic First Aid / CPR/ AED in January & February open to everyone ages 12+: Sign me up!

* Rainy Days book club: Blue Mind by Wallace Nichols, discussion on World Water Day 3/22. Find the book here
