Fall 2024 programs

Hello WaterStrong Friends

Welcome back to school and the last gasps of summer. The salmon are jumping the falls, the mesmerizing Vaux swifts are swirling around Chapman School, my apple trees are dropping their heavy fruit, and the river is starting to feel a little cooler. I know it’s time to think about Fall. We have a great lineup this season:

SUNDAYS: EcoSwim w/ Bienestar at Forest Grove Aquatic Center in Forest Grove. 25 volunteer instructors needed for each clinic. Please ping me if you can make it: dena@waterstrong.org

  • Sunday, 9/22 from 3-6p

  • Sunday, 10/20 from 3-6p

  • Sunday, 11/17 from 3-6p

  • Sunday, December date TBD, 3-6p

These clinics are offered in English and Spanish and are designed for youth ages 4+ (one clinic TBD will be for adults only). Seasoned volunteers pair with newer volunteers in a team-teach setting, 1:1 or 1:2 instructor:participant ratio. This is an excellent opportunity to share your love of the water, teach (and learn) basic water safety skills, and practice stroke development with new and experienced swimmers. Our goal here is to have fun, practice water safety skills, improve swimming techniques, and to grow together. Volunteers receive a WaterStrong t-shirt and swim cap, gift card of appreciation, light meal, and our undying appreciation.  25 volunteers needed. Please ping me to join the EcoSwim clinics with Bienestar at FGAC: dena@waterstrong.org

Please pencil in Thursday, October 3, 2024 for Brilla Bienestar, Bienestar's fundraising gala benefiting the hundreds of families who call Bienestar housing "Home".  Brilla Bienestar will be a night to celebrate our community, uplift our leaders and sustain our vital work building housing, hope, and community for the wellbeing of Latinxs, immigrants, and all families in need. Thursday 10/3 from 5:30p onwards. Venetian Hillsboro, 253 E Main St. Hillsboro OR 97123. Click here for more information Let’s make a WaterStrong appearance!

SATURDAYS: EcoSwim w/ Pacific Refugee Support Group (PRSG) at Northeast Community Center in NE Portland. 4-6 volunteers needed for each clinic. Please ping me if you can make it: dena@waterstrong.org

  • Saturday, 9/21 from 2-4p

  • Saturday, 10/26 from 11:30a-1:30p

These clinics are women-only culturally specific clinics in partnership with PRSG’s Afghan refugee program. Participants join volunteers in 1:1 to 1:2 instructor:participant ratio to fall in love with the water, exchange knowledge, learn to swim, and build confidence. Magic happens here. 4-6 volunteer instructors needed. Please ping me to join the EcoSwim clinics with PRSG at NECC: dena@waterstrong.org
